So... who are we going to see in Tulsa?

by Dan Phillips

This post rated "E" for Eminently Bumpable
(or even replaceable)

My two betters and I plan to be at the Founder's Conference this week (see side-bar), enjoying the fellowship and the speakers — and being seen together in the same place for the first time, ever!

(I just hope I don't get voted off the island.)

Who else plans to come?

I'm there...hoping to network with some people, especially those who might be looking for a reformed youth pastor? It'll be great...anyone know how many people are expected to show up for this shindig?

Hey, who's minding the store while you guys are gone?

DJP said...

It's a movable store.

This should be a heart shaping and even life changing time.
Lord bless you guys.
There are some great speakers there for sure.

Even though I live in Tulsa and drive right by Bethel Baptist on an almost daily basis, other scheduling issues (mainly work) make my attendance impossible. But I make a suggestion that while you're in the Tulsa area, you must not--not on any account--miss Latimer's barbeque, or Wilson's barbeque. You can find them easily in the local phone book, or I'm sure one of the people at Bethel can direct you.

Since my dear hubby and I live in the area we hope to attend one or two of the evening sessions. Unfortunately, his work, our homeschooling, and misc. family commitments will keep us from attending during the day!

BTW, while you're in the area you might want to be careful and watch out for a WHITE mini van (I reference your belief that drivers of white vehicles are dangerous)! Mine's the one--probably the ONLY one in Tulsa--with a Pyro sticker on the back window!!!

Tulsa?! I thought Centuri0n was an Okee from Muskogee!

DJP:

Does this mean one of you will be sort of live blogging?

I'm not sure. Do they have "the internets" in Oklahoma?

Tell Frank Turk a real friend would come to Ridgecrest in NC in November. :)

When I first found out 3/4 of the Pyros were attending this conference, I momentarily entertained the idea of going.

Is this the same group as has founders.org? I found a useful article by Dr. Roger R. Nicole at www.founders.org/library. The article is titled "How to Deal with Those Who Differ from Us."

Well, when my family moved to Los Angeles from Norman Okla for my dads job as a systems analyst his comment was that it was like going ten years back in time technologicaly...in the meantime I had kids in school seriously asking me if I had to use an outhouse in Oklahoma, and if I rode a horse to school...

Unfortunately I can't make it, I'd love to visit my home state again. I'm holding out for next month when Phil is speaking at our mens breakfast on Spurgeon. Why dontcha come down for it Dan, we serve a mean breakfast burrito! ;-)

oh, I'll be there.

I'll be there in spirit. Are the Founders the sorts of guys to post session videos and the like online?

I note that there's a Reformed Baptist church planter from Quebec speaking. Not unrelatedly, I attended a Filipino church service today with a guest pastor who turned out to be a fan of MacArthur's. Praise the Lord for his Word and doctrines of grace that transcend all boundaries of language and religion.

North Carlona? Don't they still use outhouses there?

I'll be there. Looking forward to rubbing shoulders with like minded folk.

I owe Phil an apology.

DJP said...

Frank: btw, I'll be there

Yep. You and Phil being there is about the only thing that could make me even conceive of going to OK.

(To all OK-o-philes: I am fully prepared to come back singing the praises of infinite flatness, if my attitude is turned.)

djp: "I am fully prepared to come back singing the praises of infinite flatness"

If you visit central and west OK that would be true, but here in "God's Country" we have hills, lot's of 'em, and trees, too! And some of the most beautiful sunsets you'll ever see!

Wow, I feel the urge to break into song--Oklahoma where the wind comes sweeping down the plains...!!!

DJP said...

Come to think of it, there is the Sons of the Pioneers' "Hills of Oklahoma."

Hills means not flat. But hills aren't mountains.

Brad said...

As a lurker and life long Tulsan, I second connie's "hills and trees" comments. Tulsa's on the edge between the plains to the west and the ozark foothills to the east.

And we've had more rain lately than Carter's got little liver pills. And the last time I saw an outhouse around here was this morning: my neighbor is putting in a pool and the workers are using a portajohn.

S'truth :-D

Dude,
Go check out Turner Falls, or maybe lake Thunderbird.

LeeC said...

err, "Dude" meaning Dan.

Dan. I imagine Ok is not too different from Sacramento. :)

BTW Some families from my church could very well have lost their homes in the Lake Tahoe fire. Please pray. I know the fire has hit the neighborhood this morning where one family lives.

I just had an epiphany! The Founder's conference is in the same city (Tulsa) at the same time (this week) as the IFCA national conference. Maybe you could send a few missionaries over to the IFCA help them figure out the doctrines of grace.
